Chicken Kondattam recipe is a popular dish in Malabar region. It is very spicy and tastes amazing with roti, chapati and even with rice. Chicken Kondattam is a crispy fried chicken dish. It is unique and special with boneless chicken pieces marinated in a spicy mixture, deep fried and sautéed in masalas. Chicken Kondattam is a quick and easy dish that can be prepared in minimal time.
This quick and easy fried chicken is spicy, easy-to-make chicken recipe is a highlight at every dining table and takes an hour or less to make. It is a great starter for a tantalizing meal. It is spicy, saucy and South Indian fried chicken.
Although, you can adjust the spice levels, we would suggest going all in for this recipe to experience the true flavors of the kondattam chicken. It is made by marinating chicken chunks in lots of red chili powder, ginger garlic paste and corn flour for giving it a crunchy fried texture. Then sautéed in spices to coat it in the spicy masala mix of red chilies and curry leaves.

Chicken Kondattam is a quick and easy dish that can be prepared in minimal time. Chicken Kondattam goes well with roti, chappathi and even with rice.
For preparing Chicken Kondattam, first clean the chicken pieces and keep aside in a big bowl.
Add all the ingredients except egg under "Marination" and mix well.
Now add egg to the chicken pieces and mix well. Make sure the chicken is coated properly with the mixture. Let this sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes..
Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan, add marinated chicken pieces and fry it well until it turns crispy.
Drain and set aside.
Now we shall start making the masala for the Chicken Kondattam. Chop all the vegetables and keep it handy.
In a pan add 4 tbsp of cooking oil preferably cooking oil. Add whole red chillies and fry them. Then add the fennel seeds and give a quick stir.
Now sauté onions, green chili, curry leaves, salt and minced ginger garlic till it turns translucent.
Add all the dry spice powders and sauté well until the raw smell goes away.
Now its time to add the chopped tomato and Tomato ketchup. Mix well until the tomato turns soft.
Add crispy fried chicken to the masala and mix well.
Finally add the Red Chili flakes and curry leaves and give it a quick stir. Cover and cook for 10 minutes in low flame.
Spicy Chicken Kondattam is ready to be served. Serve with hot steamed rice.
